How to get the best Snackers
Until mid May the best place for Snacker is indoors or in a heated glasshouse. Snacker likes a well lit spot (out of full sunlight), for example, on a windowsill. Snacker can go outdoors in summer but cannot tolerate frost or draughts.
Watering
Snacker must be watered regularly. After all, cucumbers are made up largely of water. If the plant does not get enough water, the cucumbers will be unable to grow and the plant will droop! Too much water is not good for it either, so you need to make sure any excess water can drain away. If there is too much water in the pot Snacker will simply drown.
Plant food
You can give Snacker some plant food to increase production. This will make the plant grow faster. Plant food is available from your retailer. Ask the retailer for advice on the best plant food to buy.
Harvesting
Snacker needs light, water and food for maximum production. The cucumbers can most easily be harvested using a small kitchen knife. This has the advantage of causing a clean cut that will quickly heal. Children should use scissors to harvest the cucumbers. Harvest Snackers when they have reached a length of 9 to 10 cm. You can harvest them when they are smaller but if they are allowed to grow too big, this can have a negative impact on both growth and production.
Pruning
If you feel that Snacker is getting too big, carefully nip out the tip. This will cause Snacker to produce new shoots on which new fruit will later appear.
If you want Snacker to grow bigger, push a large stick into the pot so that Snacker can grow up alongside it. Or run a piece of string (preferably made from jute) to the ceiling or curtain rail and wind it around the plant. Snacker may need a little help with winding. By this we mean winding the tip around the string. Important: be careful and do not wind the tip too tightly as this could damage the stem.
